Trunk Side Recording versus Extension Side Recording

Trunk side recording versus extension side recording, which is better? It is still a common question asked today. In the past, if we record trunk be it E1 or Analog, we need to do a integration to CDR/SMDR port so that we can retrieval calls via extension number. But today, many customer subscribe to DID (Direct Inward Dialing). E1 recorders which can capture DID information will allow user to search and replay calls via DID number, so the integration to CDR/SMDR is not needed.
